Miranda Mars

writing as M. Mars

Founder & Storyteller

A lifelong fantasy fanatic from the Pacific Northwest, Miranda (M.) Mars never stood a chance. Her parents met at a Dungeons and Dragons game; she grew up kibitzing on their weekly games. The shelves in her home were filled with fantasy and science fiction, the family computer loaded with the nerdiest games that the floppy disk era had to offer. She grew up reading and re-reading her favorites from authors like Madeline L’Engle, JRR Tolkien, Mercedes Lackey, and Anne McCaffery; growing older added an adoration of webcomics and graphic novels, roleplaying on online forums, and the discovery of her all-time favorite book series, the Vorkosigan saga by Lois McMaster Bujold. After getting her bachelor’s in Anthropology, Miranda wrote stories on the side while working in tech. She has a deep love for exploring characters’ emotional journeys and developing vibrant fantasy worlds where magic intertwines with society, and exploring the conflicts that arise thereof. This novella is the first of her Keybreakers series, which is loosely based on a Pathfinder campaign where she played a kind but haunted witch. There, she met a strange and hilarious guy new to TTRPGs, whose strange-accented fistfighter frogfolk instantly delighted her. When they got married years later, Miranda rolled a natural 1 to see who would get to read their vows first. She still grumbles about it.Miranda currently lives on the Washington coast, with her three exceptionally strange cats, timid but loving rescue dog, and her wonderful husband. She fosters kittens and volunteers with her local humane society. She loves studying new subjects and developing eclectic hobbies, like rock polishing and fiber spinning and wild foraging. She also livestreams on Twitch, both using a facecam and as a Vtuber (and if you know what that means, you’re at least as big a nerd as her.)
